Cloud Operations: The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing

The famous interviewer Larry King once said, “I remind myself every morning: Nothing I say this day will teach me anything. So if I’m going to learn, I must do it by listening.” 

How often have you asked a vendor if you can speak with a customer who “has been there and done that”? Maybe you think they won’t understand “MY situation”. Or they’re just puppets for the vendor, saying whatever the vendor wants you to hear. Or, you simply think you may already know better?  

Take the tip from Larry, if you have little experience with something, it’s likely a good idea to listen to lessons learned from those who have experience. 

Caveat – I’m not talking about vendors and their experiences and how perceptions can be manipulated. I’m talking about asking real live cloud operations people what they did, what they would do differently, and how they would approach cloud challenges if they had to do it all over again.
